Violence/La violencia

My favorite sign in the USA, it is the last of 3 telling you not to bring your guns into Mexico. It tells me I'm almost home and makes me feel safe, though I know that U.S. law enforcement has killed unarmed Mexicans within yards of returning to Mexico.

I have been in Nicaragua during the contra war, in Guatemala during the civil war, now in Tijuana, but according to any statistics I have seen the most violent place in the hemisphere is the USA.
I would guess it is the most violent place in the world but for the violence it has brought to the Middle East.

Sometimes the line between advertising government programs and political advertising is quite thin.

Approaching the military check point entering Playas de Tijuana.

The politics of the situation is neither my competence nor my business, but with 15 years of experience as an "officer of the court" I can say that it is very foolish to think that a military force can do the job of law enforcement. They are two very different functions and require very different training.

It is odd returning to a city occupied by the army and with a police force disarmed, but the sunsets are still beautiful.
