We stopped on the way to gather sage for the ceremony to begin our meeting.

Paramos en la ruta para recoger salvia por el rito para iniciar la reunion.

We went to Sonoyta to meet with the Papago and learn about their struggles. Their people were divided by the U.S./Mexican border, a serious problem now that the U.S. seems intent on abrogating the Jay Treaty giving free access to their people on either side.

Fuimos a Sonoyta para reunir a lso Papago y aprender de sus luchas. Su gente estaba dividida por la frontera entre E.U. y Mexico, un problema bien serio ahora porque el E.U. parece intentos quebrar el tratado Jay, dando acceso libre a su gente de los dos lados.

We also learned of the toxic waste dump (toxic waste from the U.S.) being put on their land without their approval or even consultation with them.

Tambien aprendimos sobre el basurero de los residuos toxicos (del E.U.) se esta' ubicando en su tierra sin su permiso ni su consulta.

Sonoyta

Travel from Tijuana, Baja California to Sonoyta, Sonora is mostly right along the border giving ample opportunity to observe the militarization of the region.
Viajar desde Tijuana, Baja California a Sonoyta, Sonora esta' en su mayor parte paralelamente a la frontera dando oportunidad amplia para observar la militarizacion de la area.

The Encounter continued Saturday & Sunday in the Multikulti, a former movie theater now mostly a music venue in downtown Tijuana, with panels on Indigenous Resistance, Defense of the Environment, Autonomy & Self-sustainability, Workers of the Countryside & City, Arte, Culture, Communication, & Education, & Youth, all from below & to the left of course.
El Encuentro continuo' Sabado y Domingo en el Multikulti, el antiguo Cine Bujazan ahora primeramente un local de musica, con mesas sobre Resistencia Indigena, Defensa del Medio Ambiente, Autonomia y Autosustentabilidad, Trabajadores del Campo y de la Ciudad, Arte, Cultura, Comunicacion y Educacion, Y Jovenes, siempre todos desde abajo y a la izquierda.

Cross-border Theater/Teatro Transfronterizo

The first evening of the Cross-border Encouter ended with a powerful dance-drama of a soldier participating in a massacre of an indigenous village and converting to a guerrillero.

El primera noche del Encuentro Transfromterizo termino' con una fuerte obra de danza-drama sobre un soldado cambiando a guerrillero por participando en un masacre de un pueblocito indigena.

Demonstration/Manifestacion

The First Cross-Border Meeting of the Other Campaign took place in Tijuana on the 15th, 16th & 17th of September. On Friday it naturally began with a demonstration.
El Primer Encuentro Transfronterizo de la Otra Campan~a ocurio' en Tijuana el 15, 16 y 17 de Septiembre. El Viernes naturalmente inicio' con la manifestacion.

There are 6 foot signs saying, "DO NOT DRIVE ON THE BEACH." You have to cheer when drivers get stuck in the sand with an incoming tide.

The first cross-border meeting of the Other Campaign will happen this weekend in Tijuana. The Other Campaign was called for by the 6th Declaration from the Lacandon Forest of the EZLN, well explained here:

On the 15th of September at 7pm the meetings will begin with a forum "The Rebel Faces of Women" to include testimony from Atenco, performance art, theater, graphic arts, poetry, music, and crafts in Sotano de Rita, Av. Revolucion just north of the corner of 4th Street.

En el 15 de Septiembre, 7pm el encuentro va a iniciar con un foro "Mujeres de Rostro Rebelde" incluir testimonio de Atenco, perfomance, teatro, lectura, grafica, grabado, escultura, poesia, foto, artesania, etc. en So'tano de Rita, Av. Revolucion casi esquina con calle 4ta.

We think the border patrol wanted to say "Peligro fierros bajo del agua" but it appears they are about as intelligent as the rest of the present executive branch of the US government.

Why people visit Tijuana/Porque visita a Tijuana la gente

Most visitors from the USA stay in Tijuana for less than 4 hours and most come for just one thing - perscription medicine. (It isn't what you were thinking, is it?) There are more pharmacies in Tijuana than bars, many more phamacists than illegal drug dealers.

La mayoria de los turistas gringas llegan a Tijuana para una causa - la medecina. (No que tu pienses, no?) Hay mas farmacias que bares y mucho mas farmaceuticos que vendadores de drogas ilegales.


Open 24 hours, 7 days, this drive in pharmacy is right on the route back to San Diego.

It is where I buy my blood pressure medicine. It is cheaper than it was under my private insurance plan in the USA and cheaper than the phoney Medicare plan - same medicine made by the same people, just much cheaper.

On Sunday the beach at Playas was full of people, families, a very happy place. Today, Labor Day in the US, just Monday here, it is practically empty.
El domingo era muy allegre en Playas, llena de la gente, familias. Hoy, el Dia de los Obreros en los EU, simplemente lunes aqui, es practicalmente vacia.



















Except for the bullfights, mostly the US tourists continue down the coast to Rosarito or Ensenada.
